Volunteers spent weeks collecting signatures to set up an election to vote to recall Matthew Smith from his seat on the Davison School Board. But last week, Genesee County officials determined that the recall petition drive against Smith fell short by about 100 signatures.

This month, a judge sentenced Genesee County Republican Party chair Matthew Smith to 12 months probation for making a malicious telephone call in 2020. The 1 a.m. call was to a Democratic county clerk.

A judge also sentenced Genesee County GOP chairman Matthew Smith to 12 months probation. Smith pleaded guilty last year to a charge of malicious use of a telecommunications device.
