Gasoline prices are dropping in Michigan.
Prices per gallon have dropped by roughly 40 cents in the past month. The statewide average is about $3.20.
But if you know where to look, you can save a lot more.
Motorists in parts of West Michigan are now paying as little as $2.75 a gallon. By comparison, in Ann Arbor, prices are still hovering around $3.30.
“It’s like a marathon. Everybody’s going to end up with very similar gas prices,” says Patrick DeHaan, with GasBuddy.com , “But areas like West Michigan have already completed the marathon, whereas Detroit and the eastern half the state still have a little bit of a race to run.”
DeHaan says Michigan is benefiting from falling global prices for crude oil.
“If the whole situation in the Middle East with the Saudis slashing oil prices for October…if that leads to a price war, there’s no telling how low it can go.”
DeHaan expects Michigan gas prices will continue to trend lower until December or maybe January.
