DETROIT - Bridge demolition for Detroit's light rail project will shut down a stretch of Interstate 94 this weekend.
The Michigan Department of Transportation says the freeway will close at 9 p.m. Friday between the Lodge Freeway and I-75, along with ramps. Crews will be rebuilding parts of Woodward Avenue and demolishing a bridge over I-94. MDOT says work is to wrap up by 5 a.m. next Monday.
Detours will be needed to get through the area.
The $140 million project, M-1 Rail line is scheduled to start running in 2016. It will extend 3.3 miles from Detroit's downtown riverfront.
