NEWBERRY, Mich. (AP) - An Arctic cold front has settled over Michigan, sending temperatures plunging to minus 27 in the Upper Peninsula and minus 22 in the northern Lower Peninsula.

The deep freeze Sunday came with an easing of the blowing snow that forced a number of Upper Peninsula roads to close Saturday.
The National Weather Service reports a Sunday overnight low of minus 27 at Newberry in central upper Michigan. The low reached minus 22 at Pellston in the northern Lower Peninsula, while Detroit's low fell to minus 7.

By 4 p.m. Sunday, highs for the day ranged from 11 above in Benton Harbor to minus 2 on Drummond Island.

Brighton Area firefighters faced bitter cold battling a fatal mobile home blaze early Sunday. Taylor opened its recreation center as a warming center.
