Detroit is once again dealing with flash floods after an intense rainfall Thursday.
Infrastructure issues are a big part of why the area has experienced serious flooding multiple times in the past two years, most notably after a 2014 flood that caused damage across the metro Detroit area.
Storm sewer systems and freeways get overwhelmed when there's a lot of rain in a short amount of time, according to Matt Chynoweth with the Michigan Department of Transportation.
Chynoweth says the department is looking for ways to prevent future floods, particularly on the freeways in metro Detroit.
"We're really trying to target our resources into those areas where we've had recurrent flooding and try to figure out what is the exact reason," he says.
Detroit city officials are encouraging residents to keep residential streets free of debris such as leaves, branches and grass clippings.
They say keeping these materials out of streets and catch basins can alleviate future flooding.
DTE is the major energy supplier for metro Detroit. It reported power outages for more than a thousand people.
Here are some of the photos and videos of the flooding captured by local news organizations.
